Late Night Check on Alabama Weather

A complex of thunderstorms moved into eastern Alabama earlier this evening and weakened. As the storms collpased, they produced a ling outflow boundary that continued moving steadily westward. The boundary has fired showers and storms from southern Blount County, through Central Jefferson County and into Shelby County.

A strong storm is over downtown Birmingham. It contains lots of lightning and very heavy rain.

A storm devleoped quickly near Trussville. We enjoyed a short burst of rainfall and a few loud claps of thunder.

A heavy storm is in the Hoover/Riverchase area.

Storms are between Columbiana and Calera.

Another storm was approaching Clanton from the northeast.

Over Talladega County, a strengthening storm was between Talladega and Childersburg.

Movement is generally west at less than 5 mph.

Be alert for dangerous lightning and brief heavy rain. There could even be an isolated damaging windburst tonight.

Meanwhile, over the northwest part of the state, thunderstorms have become widespread and heavy, especially over eastern Lauderdale, Colbert and northern Lawrence County.

Over southern Tennessee, a flash flood warning is in effect for Franklin County, where an organized storm is dumping rain at a rate of three inches per hour. A severe thunderstorm warning was just added for this storm.
