Summer Weather Just Rolls Along

The summer weather will roll along for the weekend and into the upcoming week with daily chances for scattered showers. A weak front is expected to sag into the area Sunday which could produce some additional coverage for showers and thunderstorms. But that front will wash out into the early part of next week putting us back into the daily summer grind of scattered showers in the afternoon and early evening.
While a front does sag into the area, there will not be an air mass change so the heat and humidity will stick around, too. This means that summer conditions will be with us as we end up August. The Storm Prediction Center has outlooked an area for slight risk of severe storms along the front extending from Southeast Oklahoma to Ohio. The main threat in this area will be damaging wind.
The “energizer” ridge builds back across the area late in the week, so the heat is not going away anytime soon. But as the calendar moves along the GFS has some hope for us. Way out in voodoo country, the GFS is suggesting a substantial trough on the East Coast which might just mean an air mass change for us with cooler conditions and less humidity. But that is a long way out so I wouldn’t bank on it just yet.
The tropics are fairly quiet. A small area is moving out of the Southwest Gulf into Mexico and another large area of disturbed weather exists southwest of the Cape Verde Islands. This area has changed little in the last day or so, but conditions are still favorable for development of this system.

Finally made it up to Cheaha. Enjoying the heat and humidity at a higher elevation! Low stratus clouds have engulfed the mountain once again this morning. I have not sampled the pool yet, but that could occur later today! Have a great day and Godspeed.
