RIGHT NOW: We actually have a few specks on the radar, but about 99 percent of the state is dry. A few isolated showers have popped up in the afternoon heat, mainly over Shelby, Chilton, Hale, Perry, and Talladega Counties. These showers will die off quickly this evening. Birmingham reports 93 degrees at 2:00, with a dewpoint of 60, and relative humidity of 33 percent. The weather won’t change much tomorrow… highs in the low 90s, and any afternoon showers will be very isolated, despite a surface boundary working south into the state.

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: Dry weather is the story with hot afternoons. Looks like highs in the 91 to 94 degree range. Lows will stay in the 60s. And, the dry weather will continue into early next week. Some hint that scattered showers could return by Wednesday of next week, but again the rain probably won’t be especially widespread.

TROPICAL TRIO: We have two category four hurricanes in the Atlantic… Igor and Julia. Both will recurve before reaching the U.S. mainland… but we do note Igor will be very close to Bermuda Sunday on the path to the North Atlantic. Julia will recurve well east of Bermuda.

Karl will come off the Yucatan Peninsula tomorrow, and will most likely make landfall late Friday night or early Saturday morning on the Mexican coast well south of Brownsville, Texas. No impact on our Gulf Coast… not even close.

VOODOO LAND: Watch the Weather Xtreme video and you will see the 12Z GFS is showing a hurricane moving north from near Key West to Orlando and Jacksonville late this month. This will change, of course, but I think the idea of a Gulf of Mexico hurricane is very valid late this month of early next month as the natural process of heat transfer continues. Lots of latent heat energy in the Gulf.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left.
