HIGHS STAY IN THE 90s: No much hope for cool weather fans for the next 7 days. Ridging aloft will keep temperatures well above average as the “endless summer” of 2010 rolls along. A weak front will kick off a few isolated showers or storms today, but like yesterday they should be few and far between. Otherwise, today will be partly sunny and hazy with a high in the low 90s in most places. We should note we actually have a few isolated showers on radar this morning over North Alabama.

TOMORROW AND THE WEEKEND: Sunny hot days, clear nights through Sunday. Highs in the low to mid 90s, with lows mostly in the 60s.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Only a slight chance of a shower for tonight’s high school games, and tomorrow night will be rain-free with a clear sky. Temperatures will fall from the upper 80s at kickoff to near 82 by the final whistle.

Saturday, Auburn hosts Clemson at Jordan-Hare Stadium at 6:00; the sky will be clear with the temperature falling from near 87 at kickoff to the low 80s by the fourth quarter. Alabama will be in Durham, NC to play Duke (2:30 p.m. kickoff on ABC 33/40); the sky will be sunny with temperatures in the mid 80s during the game. UAB hosts Troy at Legion Field in Birmingham Saturday at 3:00… lots of sunshine during the game with temperatures falling from the low 90s at kickoff to the upper 80s by the end of the game.

NEXT WEEK: Looks like the hot, dusty weather continues through the first half of the week, and any showers toward the end of the week should be pretty isolated.

TROPICS: Not much change in the overall thinking. Major hurricane Igor will recurve well east of the U.S., but will be very close to Bermuda Sunday night. Julia recurves east of Bermuda, and is now weakening due to dry air entering the circulation, and interaction with the outflow from Igor. And, Karl should make landfall on the Mexican coast well south of Brownsville, Texas tomorrow night as a category one hurricane.

VOODOO LAND: The 00Z GFS continues the idea of a Gulf of Mexico hurricane toward the end of the month; it brings the system into Tampa Bay on October 1. This will change, but the idea of a system over the GOM in 10 to 15 days is very plausible.
