The lucky ducks today are over the western border counties of Alabama where a convergence zone is producing a narrow zone of showers and thunderstorms from Pickens and Lamar through Marion, Franklin, Colbert and Lauderdale Counties.

The strongest storm is near Vina in Franklin County.

Activity is bubbling northeastward.

The rest of the state is partly cloudy. Temperatures across Central Alabama range from 87 to 90 degrees.

Gabrielle is a subtropical storm about 240 miles southeast of Cape Lookout, North Carolina. Top winds are 45 mph. The storm has been moving erratically, but is on a general northwesterly track at 9 mph. It may slow even further before it reaches the North Carolina coast Sunday night. It could strength a little more before landfall.

The central pressure is 1009 mb or 28.80 inches.

An Air Force plane should be enroute to investigate the storm.
