Next Shot Of Cool Air Arrives Sunday
An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.
THIS AFTERNOON: With a sunny sky, temperatures across North/Central Alabama range from 79 at Alexander City and Auburn to 84 in Tuscaloosa at 2:00. All of the nasty weather in the nation remains over the East Coast, where a tornado watch is in effect for places like Baltimore and Philadelphia. Flash flood warnings are up for the Washington/Baltimore area, and there have been a few tornado warnings from time to time in that region.
TOMORROW AND THE WEEKEND: Our weather stays dry; the high tomorrow will be close to 80, with upper 70s Saturday. Then, on Sunday, a fresh supply of cool air blows in from the north as highs drop into the low 70s. The air stays dry and there is no chance of rain through the weekend.
FOOTBALL WEATHER: Fantastic weather for the high school games tonight and tomorrow night; temperatures will drop from the mid 70s at kickoff into the mid 60s by the final whistle. The sky will be clear both nights and there is no chance of rain.
On Saturday, Auburn has an early kickoff (11:00 a.m.) against Louisiana-Monroe at Jordan Hare Stadium. The fans will be drenched in sunshine, with temperatures in the 73 to 76 degree range during the game. Alabama will host Florida Saturday night at Bryant-Denny Stadium (7 p.m. kickoff)… the sky will be clear, with temperatures falling from near 70 at kickoff into the upper 50s by the fourth quarter. Jacksonville State has a home game Saturday night against Murray State (6 p.m. kickoff); the sky will be clear with the temperature falling from 71 at kickoff into the cool mid 50s by the end of the game. Should be a great weekend for football all across the Deep South.
NEXT WEEK AND BEYOND: The weather continues to look dry next week, but the GFS remains occasionally committed to a big rain event in Alabama in the October 11-13 time frame with a deep upper low showing up west of Alabama at that time on the 12Z GFS. This feature comes and goes, and I would lead toward a dry solution simply considering the time of the year.
TROPICS: A tropical wave east of the Windward Islands has a decent chance at becoming a tropical depression in coming days as it moves toward the Caribbean. The remnant low that used to be Tropical Storm Nicole is near Cape Fear, NC.
