WE NEED RAIN: But, we won’t get any through the weekend as the long dry spell continues. Today is the 8th consecutive day with no rain; we are enjoying a bright sunny sky with temperatures generally in the low 70s. The warming trend continues through Friday, with upper 70s tomorrow, followed by low 80s Thursday and Friday. The pattern of sunny days and clear cool nights will continue. Be sure and scroll down for a list of lows across Alabama this morning as complied by the great American weather legend, J.B. Elliott.

THE WEEKEND: We will nudge daytime temperatures up a bit, with mid 80s likely now for Saturday and Sunday with a good supply of sunshine both days. Morning lows will remain in the 50s.

NEXT WEEK AND BEYOND: The 12Z GFS brings in an upper trough on Tuesday, which would suggest a chance of showers statewide. Nothing all that beneficial, but at least we have a chance of getting a little badly needed rain. Out in the longer range, the 12Z GFS brings a sharp cold front through here October 17, followed by another shot of much colder air.

TROPICS: A broad low near Puerto Rico has a good chance of organization in coming days. Quite frankly, it looks more like an extra-tropical system already, and one way or another it won’t impact the U.S. as the steering currents will carry it northeast into the open Atlantic. The rest of the Atlantic basin is relatively quiet this afternoon.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes.
