NO DROUGHT BUSTER: The rain tonight won’t be especially widespread or beneficial, but at least some neighborhoods will see enough rain to settle the dust. Radar at 3:00 shows some decent showers over Winston, Franklin, Lawrence, and Morgan Counties of North Alabama, and we will maintain the chance of scattered showers through the night. The NAM has actually become more aggressive with the rain tonight, showing 0.36″ for Birmingham, while the GFS is much drier with 0.09″. I guess some places could see up to 1/3 inch of rain, but most places will probably see barely enough to measure. All of the showers should end in the 2:00 a.m. to 4:00 a.m. time frame early tomorrow.

REST OF THE WEEK: Tomorrow will be a cooler day, with ample sunshine and a high in the mid to upper 70s. The sky will stay sunny Thursday and Friday with highs mostly in the upper 70s, and lows in the 40s. More great weather for the high school football hames around the state this week.

WEEKEND PREVIEW: Saturday looks dry, with a partly sunny sky and a high around 80. We will go ahead and introduce a chance of showers Sunday afternoon as moisture levels increase, and we begin to see some lifting from a short wave trough to the west.

NEXT WEEK AND BEYOND: The 12Z GFS continues the idea of a pretty decent little rain event early next week with a good chance of showers and storms on Monday, and then again Wednesday with a secondary front. The latter half of the week will be cool and dry. The good news is that we have potential for 1/2 to 1 inch of rain Monday through Wednesday.

The pattern looks much more active as we wrap up October and get into November, which is the beginning of our fall tornado season in Alabama. The 12Z operational GFS advertises a good rain/storm event November 1-2…. see the Weather Xtreme video for more details.

TROPICS: NHC suggests a 50/50 chance the disturbance over the West Caribbean becomes Tropical Storm Richard in coming days. With weak steering currents, most likely it will just hang around for the next 3 to 5 days with little movement. More than likely, it will ultimately drift west into Central America.
