Tropical Storm Richard is just off the northeastern coast of Honduras. The storm has top winds of 65 mph. It is moving just a little north of west at at 8 mph.

Around 8:45 a.m., Air Force Reserve reconnaissance encountered a flight level wind of 54 knots, which is equivalent to about 50 mph at the surface. The central pressure was 1000 mb.

Richard will become a hurricane later today as it moves along the coast of Honduras. Hurricane warnings are in effect.

It will reach Belize late Sunday night and then start the long trek across the Yucatan. Tropical storm warnings are in effect there.

It will emerge into the southwestern Gulf of Mexico on Tuesday as a depression, but environmental conditions over the Gulf will not be favorable for the system to re-intensify.
