High risk to our north, severe weather here

SPC doesn’t issue these very often…looks like a big-time damaging wind event, with some tornadoes also over Indiana and Kentucky today.  Winds just off the surface will be very high up there (close to 75 mph at 4,500 feet).

Here in Alabama, there could be a few scattered strong storms during the day, especially if we get some sunshine.  The air will be unstable, with dewpoints near 70 and CAPE values over 1,500 J/kg by late afternoon.  It still looks like the main event will move into northwest Alabama before sunset, and into BHM between 7 and 11 pm, as a cold front and likely squall line move through Alabama.  Just like Monday morning, a few of the storms may produce damaging winds, and 2 or 3 tornadoes are possible, so keep an eye on the weather this afternoon and evening.

James will have more details in his video around 6-7 am, and I’ll have a new analysis once we get all the upper air data and 12Z models, around noon.
