Delightful Days Ahead

An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player on the right sidebar of the blog. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

STORM ALERT XTREME: Our annual storm spotter training is coming up this Saturday November 13 at the BJCC, as part of the Alabama International Auto show. We begin at 9:00, and you will be done at 2:00. And, as a “thank you”, you will get free admission into the car show. There is no cost, and no need to register, just show up. Brian Peters will be the trainer, and we ask all existing and potential Skywatchers to attend. See you there!

CHILLY NIGHTS; WARMER DAYS: Picture perfect weather is ahead for Alabama for the rest of the week as a warming trend continues. While most communities will dip into the upper 30s tomorrow morning, we will rise into the mid 70s by afternoon with a strong November sun. Our weather pretty much stays the same for the rest of the week with sunny mild days and clear cool nights. Afternoon highs will remain in the 70s through Friday. Doesn’t get much better.

OUR WEEKEND: An upper trough will pass just north of the state over the weekend, and it has the potential to bring a few showers to the state. The 12Z GFS suggests the best chance of showers will some Saturday afternoon and Saturday night, and due to limited moisture it sure looks like rain amounts will be rather light and spotty, with most places getting 1/4 inch or less. Then, by Sunday, the best chance of showers will be east of a line from Atlanta to Montgomery to Mobile as the surface front drifts to the east. Highs over the weekend will drop into the 60s, about where we should be in mid-November in Alabama.

NEXT WEEK: Still looks like a pretty decent rain is event is shaping up early next week; the latest run of the GFS shows the best chance of wet weather will come Monday night and Tuesday. We are hopeful most of the state will see at least one inch from this, but we won’t know for sure until later in the week. Sure seems like the safe forecast in recent months has been to do with a drier solution, however.

LONG RANGE: Out in the land of voodoo, the global models continue to hint around at a major precipitation event in the November 19-21 time frame, followed by much colder weather. See the Weather Xtreme video for the latest.

TROPICS: All is quiet across the Atlantic basin, and it sure seems like the 2010 Atlantic hurricane season is fading fast with the SSTs cooling nicely across the Gulf. Lots of storms this year, but very few impacting the U.S.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. Tonight’s guest is Nick Walker of The Weather Channel… we will stream it live at 8:30 p.m. CST, and have it posted to iTunes and the web late tonight around midnight.

I sure enjoyed speaking to a group of students today at Briarwood Christian High School… be looking for the next Weather Xtreme video here by 7:00 a.m. tomorrow…
