An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player on the right sidebar of the blog. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

STORM ALERT XTREME: Our annual storm spotter training is coming up this Saturday at the BJCC, as part of the Alabama International Auto show. We begin at 9:00, and you will be done at 2:00. And, as a “thank you”, you will get free admission into the car show. There is no cost, and no need to register, just show up. Brian Peters will be the trainer, and we ask all existing and potential Skywatchers to attend. See you there!

PICTURE PERFECT FALL WEATHER: We will promise a string of sunny days ahead, with very comfortable days and cool nights. Highs will be mostly in the mid 70s, with lows in the 40s through Friday. Doesn’t get much better than this here in November, a time when our weather can be very volatile with huge temperature swings and severe weather threats. Looks like another great night for high school football playoff games Friday night with clear and cool conditions.

SOME WEEKEND CHANGES: Part of the upper trough over the western U.S. will lift northward, toward the Great Lakes, this weekend. A surface front will slip into Alabama over the weekend, and bring some risk of showers, but at this point it certainly looks like it won’t rain very much. And, the 00Z GFS brings a slower solution to the table, suggesting that any showers will hold off until after midnight Saturday night into Sunday. We will begin to lean in that direction, so hopefully most of the day Saturday will be dry for college football or anything else that might be going on outdoors. The rain amounts Sunday should be rather light and spotty, generally under 1/4 inch for most spots.

NEXT WEEK: It still looks like a better rain event is ahead as the western trough amplifies and begins to move east. Watch the Weather Xtreme video and you will see the 00Z GFS now brings in a good rain event Monday and Monday night, followed by drier air on Tuesday. Still lots of uncertainty on the timing, but hopefully parts of Alabama will pick up one inch of rain early next week.

LONG RANGE: Very low confidence in specific weather events in the November 17-22 time frame; we have seen some solutions hinting at a big rain event followed by much colder air, and others more benign. See the Weather Xtreme video for some thoughts.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. Scroll down for this week’s show notes… nice to have Nick Walker of The Weather Channel on the show this week.
