RIGHT NOW: A vigorous vorticity maximum is swinging through Alabama this morning, and despite very limited atmospheric moisture, it is squeezing out a little light rain. We expect the rain to diminish as it moves east over the next few hours, but no doubt some of you will have to use your windshield wipers driving to work this morning. Temperatures are generally in the 40s with a cloudy sky.

We are forecasting a clearing sky later today, with sunshine returning this afternoon for most communities, with temperatures rising into the low 60s.

TOMORROW THROUGH SUNDAY: Very nice weather, with sunny mild days and clear cool nights. The high tomorrow will be in the upper 60s, followed by readings near 70 on both Saturday and Sunday. Lows will be mostly in the 40s. Doesn’t get much better this time of the year.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: For tonight’s Alabama/Georgia State game at Bryant Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa (6:30 p.m. kickoff), the sky will be clear with temperatures falling from near 55 at kickoff to near 45 by the final whistle. A similar situation tomorrow night for the high school playoff games, with temperatures reaching the 40s during the second half of the games. The sky will be clear.

Saturday, UAB hosts Memphis at Legion Field with a 3:00 kickoff; the sky will be sunny with a temperature near 70 at kickoff, dropping to near 60 by the end of the game. Samford hosts The Citadel at 1:00 Saturday; lots of sunshine with temperatures in the 67 to 70 degree range during the game. Jacksonville State will be in Cookville, Tennessee Saturday to take on Tennessee Tech (4:00 kickoff)… the sky will be clear with temperatures falling from near 65 at kickoff to around 52 by the end of the game.

THANKSGIVING WEEK: Very mild weather headlines the forecast on Monday and Tuesday, with temperatures reaching the mid 70s with a partly sunny sky. These two days should be generally dry, although we might mention a small risk of an afternoon shower Tuesday thanks to increasing moisture. Watch the Weather Xtreme video, and you will see the 00Z GFS is a little faster with the mid-week front, showing a good chance of showers and possible thunderstorms Wednesday, with that rain ending early in the day on Thanksgiving. Most other runs have been slower, however, showing Thanksgiving Day to be relatively wet. Confidence is increasing that Black Friday, also the day of this year’s Iron Bowl in Tuscaloosa, will be dry and sharply colder, with some places having a hard time getting out of the 40s with a very chilly north wind.

VOODOO THOUGHTS: There is decent confidence in the idea of the coldest air so far this season blowing into the eastern half of the nation right at the end of the month, but needless to say details are impossible to nail down. See the Weather Xtreme video for more details.
