CALMING DOWN: Light rain lingers over much of Alabama this afternoon, but will be ending during the next two hours as much drier and colder air blows into the state.

Despite a bunch of tornado warnings, it seems like there wasn’t much damage across Alabama, although the NWS will be investigating possible tornado touchdowns in Lamar/Pickens, Autauga/Elmore, and Blount Counties tomorrow. I will post some pictures of the damage in Lamar County shortly. We will also post some rain totals… everybody received 1-2 inches, and some places now have two day storm totals over four inches. What a soaking.

TONIGHT/TOMORROW: The sky will become clear tonight, and by daybreak tomorrow most places will wind up in the 26 to 30 degree range. The day tomorrow will be sunny but chilly with a high only in the mid to upper 40s.

THURSDAY THROUGH SUNDAY: Thursday morning will feature another freeze, with lows generally in the upper 20s. Then, expect sunny cool days and clear cold nights Thursday through Saturday, with highs in the 50s and lows in the 30s. The 12Z GFS continues the idea of some moisture returning Sunday, and we will go ahead and mention some risk of a shower Sunday afternoon.

NEXT WEEK AND BEYOND: What could very well be the coldest air so far this season will settle into Alabama next week. Looks like highs in the 40s and lows in the 20s on Tuesday and Wednesday; the ECMWF is the colder model, which hints that some parts of North Alabama might even visit the teens by mid-week. The GFS remains dry, and the Gulf storm that was advertised by the ECMWF is off the board. So, we will basically trend the forecast cold and dry and watch model trends in coming days.

At mid-month the GFS continues to look very cold around December 14-16… see the Weather Xtreme video for details.
