An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player on the right sidebar of the blog. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

CHILL IN THE AIR: Nice to have the sun shining again today after the soaking rain of recent days, but the weather will be pretty chilly with a high only in the mid to upper 40s today with an icy northwest wind. We will be below freezing again early tomorrow with a clear sky and light wind; lows will range from the low 20s across the colder valleys to the low 30s on the ridge tops.

TOMORROW/FRIDAY: Nice weather is the story with sunny cool days and clear cold nights. Highs mostly in the 50s with a low Friday morning in the mid 30s. Perfect for the high school football championship games down in Auburn (the Super 6).

THE WEEKEND: Watch the Weather Xtreme video and you will see the 06Z GFS brings a disturbance down in the northwest flow aloft with some potential for a few sprinkles Saturday evening. Moisture will be very limited, and for now we won’t mention any chance of rain with this feature. Then, Sunday looks dry but cooler with a high close to 50.

NEXT WEEK: Confidence is high that the week will be cold. Perhaps the coldest air so far this season, with highs in the 40s and lows in the 20s through mid-week. We are leaning toward a dry solution, although the 06Z GFS shows a well defined impulse that will bring some risk of snow to Arkansas and North Mississippi late Monday and Monday night, and maybe a few flakes over North Alabama early Tuesday morning. Again, we won’t mention any precipitation in the forecast for now, and watch model trends in coming days. The ECMWF is colder and generally dry.

LONG RANGE: Watch the Weather Xtreme video and you will see the operational runs of the GFS have been pretty cold through mid-December over the last few days, with temperatures well below average. It remains to be seen if we have any winter related fun and games along the way.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
