…..Kristie Calvin, our 33/40 Weatherwatcher in North Pole, Alaska reports a low of 39 below zero this morning with a high expected today of 30 below and a low tonight 40 below! No real warming for the next seven days!

…..Nashville is expecting accumulating snow Friday night and Christmas day with scattered snow showers continuing Christmas night and Sunday. Additional flurries for Sunday night.

…..2 inches of snow still on the ground on Newfound Gap and atop Mt. LeConte in the Great Smoky Mountains this morning. No measurable snow at Cades Cove and Gatlinburg. Low temperature this morning on Mt. LeConte was 8 above zero.

…..86 was the high yesterday at Edinburg, Tex., almost like summer. Coldest in the Lower 48 this morning was 11 below at Havre, Mont.

…..Coldest in Alaska was 45 below zero at Bettles where there was 19 inches of snow. It was 36 below at Fairbanks.

…..More very heavy precipitation for the West Coast this weekend. Heard one news report that the next storm will be the worst so far. More downpours for the lower elevations and tons of additional snow for the high country.

…..More heavy rain and heavy snow for the SW USA yesterday. Five inches of rain near Glendale, Ariz., yesterday with water curb to curb in the streets.

…..In Clark County, Southern Nevada, water was 12 feet deep over some roads. Other places had water 2 to 3 feet over roads.

…..Downtown L.A. got 1.70 inches additional rain yesterday. This brought their December total to 8.52 inches. That is over seven inches above average.

…..The above list is only a fraction of the reports that we have. This is a major, major happening.

FINAL NOTE: I overheard someone in the super market yesterday say that we were going to “get as cold as the blazes.” I heard that term a lot growing up in West Alabama. What gives? Blazes are “hot” last time I checked.

But, life goes on and never a dull moment in the weather office!
