Alabama Weather Update 8 a.m.

All those little blue snowflakes are official NWS reports of snow across northern Mississippi, northern Alabama and southern Tennessee this morning.

The 850 millibar 0C line is shown on the map in the box on right…north of that line, temperatures at 5000 feet are at 32F now. The colors on the radar show the all snow vs. sleet/rain/snow mix line.

The winter weather advisories are in the lower left hand box with infrared satellite in upper left.

Some reports…

…Cherokee in Northwest Alabama…secondary roads and bridges becoming click…snow accumulating on grass…time of report 6:39.

…Arab in Marshall County…snow accumulating on grassy surfaces in Arab and on Brindlee Mountain

…Morgan County…snow accumulating on grassy surfaces…no road issues yet as of 7:02.

…Madison…elevated roads on Rainbow Mountain accumulating snow now…

…Jackson County…1.75 inches on ground in Skyline…roads covered.

…1 inch of snow on cars at the NWS Huntsville…roads near the office also slick…

…2 inches at Toney in Madison County.

…2 inches at New Market in Madison County.

…Tennessee reports: 2.3 inches at Cowan…1.1 inches at Winchester…both these reports from Franklin County TN.

..1/2 inch on ground at Haleyville…at 7:47.

…Oneonta…David is 3 miles NE of Oneonta and reports rain, snow, sleet mix, mostly snow/sleet.

…Alan in Bear Creek reports ALDOT says roads getting slick in spots in Northwest Alabama, especially AL 243 in Franklin County. His ground is totally white…temp 32F.

…A crunchy porch report from John Talbot in western Jefferson County…sleet continues…

…Slush now coating steps at Gina Ritter’s house in Nauvoo

…Grady Evans in Ensley reports rain and sleet mixed with 35F. He says Merry Christmas BTW…

…Heavy snow on Lookout Mountain now says Vic Bell…temp down to 35F.

…Brenda Varner reports sleet in Springville.
