Airport Still Operating But Most Flights Canceled/Diverted

It looks like the last two commercial flights of the night have departed from Birmingham.

LATE NOTE 8:19…
Delta 2170 from Atlanta is enroute to Birmingham. It is expected to arrive at 8:37 p.m. The tower just asked currently landing flight for report on runway nraking action. (CORRECTED from earlier “breaking” action wording.)

Now all of the commercial arrivals have been diverted or have landed.

According to the Southwest Airlines website, the morning flights to Phoenix (nonstop and Houston connection) have been canceled. But later flights depend on conditions at the Airport in the morning.

Anyone have word on the various charter flights?

Atlanta Center has had to route flights around buildups to the west of Birmingham. Not sure of the exact location. Pilots reported quite a lightning show! I do see a 30,000 foot top over northern Greene County.
