The Warm-Up To Continue
An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player on the right sidebar of the blog. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.
FEELING BETTER: Be sure and scroll down for a long list of lows across Alabama this morning… as cold as 1 degree above zero earlier today. Makes the warm-up pretty impressive… Birmingham has reached 44 at 2:00… Alexander City and Montgomery are at 48. We note some mid level clouds that have moved into parts of Northwest Alabama, but the rest of the state is generally sunny.
OUR WEEKEND: Tonight will be cold, but not as cold as recent nights. A number of communities will drop into the teens again where snow is on the ground, elsewhere the low will be close to 20. We have a good chance of hitting the big “50” tomorrow with a partly sunny sky. Clouds will move into the state Sunday, which could keep us in the upper 40s, but the weather will stay dry.
MONDAY: Rain returns to Alabama Monday. We should note that if the rain begins early Monday morning, there could be a window for some light freezing rain or sleet. The precipitation will quickly turn to rain during the day, and for now it doesn’t look like a major issue, but just be aware of the possibility. Rain will fall at times Monday afternoon and Monday night thanks to a vorticity max moving across the Gulf Coast.
TUESDAY AND THE REST OF THE WEEK: A cold front pushes through the state Tuesday, so we will maintain a chance of showers, and possibly a thunderstorm, mainly during the morning. Beyond that, lots of model madness and low forecast confidence. Watch the Weather Xtreme video and you will see the 12Z GFS really doesn’t show much cold air in here Wednesday, but another cold front arrives late Thursday with a chance of showers, followed by colder air Friday (Jan 21). One way or another it sure looks like the core of the next Arctic airmass will stay north of Alabama. See the video for details on that and voodoo land ideas.
WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
