THIS AFTERNOON: Just about everybody is in the 50s this afternoon… with Tuscaloosa reporting 58 degrees at 2:00. The sky is generally sunny over the northern half of the state, and everybody seems to be in a better mood with the warming trend intact.
TOMORROW THROUGH SATURDAY: We might touch 60 tomorrow, but 60s are likely statewide Saturday, and it now looks like it should be the warmest day so far this year, passing the 64 degree high we enjoyed on New Year’s Day. The air stays very dry, and the sky will be partly to mostly sunny tomorrow and Saturday.
SUNDAY: Clouds begin to return, and a little light rain could break out in scattered spots Sunday afternoon into Sunday night. We stay mild with a high not too far from 60.
NEXT WEEK: The weather looks unsettled for the first half of the week. A little light rain is possible at times Monday and Tuesday, but both the GFS and the ECMWF are advertising the big event late Tuesday night into Wednesday with a strong low lifting north out of the Gulf, with excellent upper support.
The ECMWF is the colder model, and shows a pretty decent snow set up for Texas on Tuesday, mainly for areas north and west of Fort Worth. We are still looking at mostly rain for Alabama if the guidance is correct, with some risk of a brief change to snow on the back side of the departing storm Wednesday night. Looks like potential for over one inch of rain on Wednesday.
Then, much colder air will likely blow in here by Thursday and Friday. Even the GFS is now looking much colder for the end of the week. See the Weather Xtreme video for details.
LONG RANGE: Still looks like the mean upper trough over the eastern U.S. stays in place through mid-February with the Greenland block still in place. So, on a general basis temperatures should remain below average for at least the next two weeks.
