A Sunny Weekend

An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below, and on iTunes… You now have the option to watch the video full screen, and you can even get code to embed the video in your own web site!

The sky is clearing nicely from southwest to northwest across Alabama today as our old pal, the upper low, is now south of St. Louis. The sky is sunny in places like Anniston, Roanoke, Ashland, and Alex City. Clouds are hanging tough from Birmingham to the northwest, but that area will become clear tonight.

No change in our weekend thinking; sunny days and clear, chilly nights. Highs anywhere from 67 to 70; lows down in the 40s. A great weekend ahead.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: For the annual Magic City Classic between Alabama A&M and Alabama State with a 2:30 p.m. kickoff Saturday, it should be all sunshine, near 70 at kickoff and about 62 at the final whistle. Ole Miss will be at Auburn for a 5:00 p.m. kickoff. Tailormade perfect weather—a light wind, clear, 68 at kickoff and 57 at the final whistle. UAB is at East Carolina in Greenville, NC, 2:30 p.m. kickoff, about 73, but a good chance of showers and possibly even a thunderstorm. Great weather for Alabama high school games tonight. Temperatures mostly in the 50s. No rain, but there could be some cloud cover during the NW Alabama games.

NEXT WEEK: At this point our weather looks dry Monday through Friday with seasonal temperatures for late October and early November. The Gulf of Mexico remains disturbed all week, but the GFS keeps that moisture south of us.

NOVEMBER 3-4: Model madness is the story for this weekend… we have seen runs that bring a long wave trough through with strong storms and much colder air, but the 12Z GFS was more benign with little chance of rain and no cold air. We will deal with it more specifically on Monday.

The GFS does show a shot of very cold air around November 7, but this is all in voodoo country now.

PRIME TIME SPECIAL: Join us on ABC 33/40 Sunday evening at 6:00 for a one hour prime time weather special called “Safe In The Storm”. We will cover a number of interesting weather issues, including tornado safety in Alabama schools, the new NWS polygon warning system, and CJ’s law (a pending bit of legislation that would force mobile home manufacturers to put a new NOAA Weather Radio in every new home sold). If you won’t be home, be sure and set the TiVO or VCR!

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left.

WEATHER PARTY: Get all the latest weather news over on our sister site, WeatherParty.com. Be sure and register while you are there; you can submit stories and vote on them to determine what is published on the front page. This is a great way to find the latest weather-related news stories.

I sure enjoyed visiting the JOY Club today at First Baptist Church of Jasper… what a huge crowd and great hospitality. I will be spending some time with the family this weekend; Brian Peters will have the video updates here tomorrow and Sunday. My next Weather Xtreme video will come up Monday morning bright and early at 7:00. Have a great weekend and enjoy the fine fall weather!
