Weekend Warm-Up Ahead
An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player on the right sidebar of the blog. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.
COLD START: As cold as 11 degrees in Alabama this morning… that is the 5:00 observation in Haleyville. Other reports from Skywatchers include 17 at Coker, just west of Tuscaloosa, and 15 at Concord, just west of Birmingham. J.B. Elliott, the great American weather legend, will have a full rundown on morning lows a little later.
We warm into the 40s today with sunshine in full supply as the warm-up begins.
WONDERFUL WEEKEND: Should be hard to find a decent cloud in the Alabama sky tomorrow as the warm-up becomes more pronounced. The high tomorrow will be in the low 50s, and we should reach 60 degrees Sunday.
NEXT WEEK: A fresh shot of drier air moves in Monday which might drop the high a degree or two, but I don’t think anybody will notice any change. And, for the rest of the week, mid to upper 60s are likely. No rain through Wednesday… and just a slight risk of a shower at the end of the week with the approach of a weakening front with little upper support. Cold air next week will be mainly over the Northwest U.S.
LONG RANGE/VOODOO LAND: The GFS hints at a stalled surface front and potential decent rain event around Feb 21-22… which could very well be our next really significant rain event. See the Weather Xtreme video for more ideas on long range weather.
WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
