An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player on the right sidebar of the blog. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

NO SNOW: For the first time in a while, we aren’t digging through hundreds of model maps digging for clues about snow or ice; the pattern has flipped for now pushing the Arctic air will away from the Deep South setting for stage for a delightful series of days.

Look for highs in the 60s through Wednesday with a good supply of sunshine… and there is a pretty good chance we visit the warm 70s by Thursday and Friday as the big thaw continues. A weak surface front will pass through Friday evening, and that might kick off a shower somewhere, but the chance looks very small for now. We can all get out and enjoy some fresh air this week.

WEEKEND PEEK: In the wake of the Friday evening front, temperatures will back off slightly over the weekend, but we are still talking highs in the 60s Saturday and Sunday with a sunny sky both days. Nights will be cooler, with lows down in the 30s by early Sunday.

NEXT WEEK AND BEYOND: The GFS continue to suggest the next chance at a significant rain event will come a week from tomorrow, around Tuesday February 22, with a passing cold front. And, we still see no sign of any serious invasion of cold air through the end of the month. Of course, we all know we can, and probably will, have some sharp cold snaps in March and the first part of April. Remember, the average date of the last freeze here is March 23, and we have seen a freeze as late as April 23.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.

I hav a weather program this morning at Oak Grove Elementary out in the western part of Jefferson County… most of you remember that school was destroyed by an EF5 tornado April 8, 1998; the kids I will see this morning were born a few years later, but the parents have vivid memories of that horrible night. Look for the next Weather Xtreme video here by 3:30 this afternoon. Enjoy the day!
