Mild Days, Cool Nights

TOUCH OF SPRING IN THE AIR: Gotta love it… afternoons are warmer, nights not as cold, and the blog trolls are gone. We all needed the break. The temperature has reached 70 degrees this afternoon at Tuscaloosa and Montgomery; most other places are in the mid to upper 60s with maximum sunshine.

REST OF THE WEEK: Temperatures will back off a few degrees tomorrow… we begin the day in the mid 30s, and rise into the mid 60s with a full supply of sunshine. Wednesday will remain sunny with a high well in the 60s, and a great chance we all visit the low 70s Thursday and Friday as the spring-like weather continues. Moisture levels will slowly increase late in the week, and we will still mention just the risk of a few isolated showers Friday or Friday night with a surface front passing through. The front has little upper support, so rain, if any, will be very light and spotty.

WEEKEND PREVIEW: Saturday and Sunday look great. Sunny both days, highs mostly in the 60s. Nights will stay cool, in fact we will be down in the 30s at daybreak Sunday, but a strong February sun will push those temperatures up quickly during the morning hours.

NEXT WEEK: Still looks like our next decent rain event could very well come around Tuesday and Wednesday (2/22-23) as a cold front slips into the state and becomes stationary. We note Birmingham’s rain total for the year so far is 5.42″, with a deficiency of almost two inches (1.94). Hopefully that event next week will help get us caught up.

LONG RANGE: Still no sign of any really serious Arctic air invasions in the medium range (7-16 days)… see the Weather Xtreme video for details. Again, we caution you we almost always have some pretty sharp cold snaps in March and early April… so don’t put up the winter clothes just yet.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
