Some Frost On The Pumpkins….

An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below, and on iTunes…

This is our coldest morning so far this season… J.B. will run down the list of lows a little later, but we have many reports of temperatures in the mid to upper 30s across the northern half of the state in the colder spots. Remember, not that long ago we were sweating out those 105 degree days in August!

LOOKING AHAED: Still no sign of any rain through the weekend. A fresh supply of continental air arrives Thursday; looks like highs mostly between 70 and 74, and lows between 45 and 52 through Sunday. Beautiful weather, but our drought will only worsen. Thank goodness for the rain last week.

LONG RANGE: Out into voodoo country, the 00Z GFS gives us a different look. It takes the November 10 rain event off the board. There is some hint of a few showers around November 7 thanks to a broad upper trough and a surface front, but nothing significant. Then, cooler and drier air creeps into the region which keeps us mostly high and dry through November 14. But, this is all voodoo; the November 10 rain event might go back on the board in a few days.

One thing I think we can say with confidence is that the pattern looks colder than normal for much of the continent for November. Very cold air is building across Canada and parts of Alaska now, and some of that will be dropping down into the “lower 48” from time to time in the days ahead.

TROPICS: Noel is on the north coast of Cuba this morning; it will move up toward Nassau and the Bahamas, and then recurve into the open Atlantic before reaching Florida. But, there will be some wind and rain from Key West north through Miami and West Palm Beach. Noel is not expected to reach hurricane strength.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left. Ashley Brand was with us last night; she discussed her recent trip to the NWA (National Weather Association) annual convention in Reno.

WEATHER PARTY: Get all the latest weather news over on our sister site, WeatherParty.com. Be sure and register while you are there; you can submit stories and vote on them to determine what is published on the front page. This is a great way to find the latest weather-related news stories.

STORM ALERT XTREME: We hope to see you on Saturday, November 10 at the BJCC for our annual severe storm training session. Once again this year, the Alabama International Auto Show is a sponsor of Storm Alert XTREME, and it will be held at the BJCC. This is your chance to learn more about Alabama weather, and to be trained as a storm spotter. ABC 33/40 Meteorologist Brian Peters, long time WCM (Warning Coordination Meteorologist) for the National Weather Service in Birmingham, will teach a basic and advanced course on spotting small scale features within thunderstorms that are very important to meteorologists. Read more about Storm Alert XTREME here.

This morning I am off to Etowah County… I will be speaking to a home school group. Then, it is back to the office, and the afternoon Weather Xtreme video should be posted by 3:30 or so. Enjoy this fantastic fall day!
