Warm weather continues for the weekend as our temperatures remain about 10 to 15 degrees above seasonal values. Early risers will have to deal with some patchy fog this morning until 9 am or so. With clouds a few sprinkles are possible today but no significant rain. Even the Monday/Tuesday event should be light.

Sunday will be another warm day as the warm weather weekend continues. Again temperatures – lows and highs – will be 10 to 15 degrees warmer than we usually see at this time in February.

In the upper atmosphere, a strong short wave moves by Monday which will enhance our chances for some light rain. At the moment, rainfall amounts appear to be very light with values of a tenth of an inch or less – about what it takes to settle the dust a little. That trough zips by as the southern tier of the US remains under a very fast flow aloft. That means that the rain chances should diminish early Tuesday paving the way for noticeably cooler weather along with dry conditions.

Our next upper short wave moves out of the southern Rockies on Thursday. Once again, with the fast flow, it will impact us very late Thursday and into Friday with the best rain chances we’ve seen in some time. Rain should sweep out late Friday evening with a dry weekend for us.

Voodoo country – or long range projections – show a potent system for the eastern half of the country on February 28th – potent enough to perhaps present a severe weather situation for a large section of the Central and Southeast US. Of course, this is too far out to be very specific. And another system may bring rain around March 6th.

I had a great cruise with my wife and another couple from our church. It was exciting to get my first look at the Yucatan Peninsula – a place I have referenced a lot over the years when dealing with hurricanes and tropical storms. No big surprises from what I had envisioned, but it was great to see it first hand. The Gulf was very calm going and coming so not much chance to get seasick. Weather was beautiful there, too, with the high at Cozumel reaching 82. And, yes, I am ready to go on another cruise anytime because it was so much fun! Enjoy the warm day and Godspeed.
