Early Afternoon Quick Look

Not much happening around Alabama early on this Thursday afternoon but that will change especially late today and overnight.

South winds were increasing and bringing in moisture from the Gulf of Mexico. Temperatures had soared into the 70s soon after the lunch hour. South winds were gusting as high as 30 mph. That will increase some this afternoon and a wind advisory is in effect. Gusts will likely reach 35 mph or higher on the ridges.

This is awful weather for fire fighters concerned with woods fires.

We are still under a slight risk of severe weather between now and early Friday. Here in Central Alabama, the strongest thunderstorms will be late arrivals, possibly toward midnight or even later. We will watch all that as the night goes on.

We will be drinking the midnight coffee, for sure.

One good thing in all this. Storms later tonight and again Sunday night added together may give us as much as one inch of rain.

Badly needed for sure.

Keep checking this site, we will be updating throughout the night. Who needs sleep!
