Tornado Watch Issued For Alabama

| February 24, 2011 @ 8:44 pm | 10 Replies

If you live in the range of the NOAA Weatheradios at Winfield, Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, Oneonta or Mt. Cheaha, your unit should have sounded for the new tornado watch. Did it? Go make sure it is turned on and set to alert for tonight.

Here are the Birmingham counties: Bibb, Blount, Etowah, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Jefferson, Lamar, Marion, Pickens, Shelby, St. Clair, Sumter, Tuscaloosa, Walker and Winston.

Huntsville’s Alabama counties: Cullman, DeKalb, Franklin, Jackson, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, Marshall and Morgan.

Here is the discussion portion of the text:
DISCUSSION…A FAST MOVING SQUALL LINE WILL CONTINUE TO TRACK EASTWARD ACROSS MS AND INTO AL DURING THE NEXT FEW HOURS. EMBEDDED CIRCULATIONS IN THE LINE WILL MAINTAIN A RISK OF ISOLATED TORNADOES…BUT PRIMARY THREAT WILL BE WIDESPREAD DAMAGING WINDS. STORMS ARE EXPECTED TO BEGIN TO SLOWLY WEAKEN AFTER MIDNIGHT AS THEY TRACK ACROSS AL.
