THIS AFTERNOON: The sun is shining brightly across much of Alabama this afternoon, with temperatures generally in the low 60s. It is cooler over the northwest corner of the state, where clouds are hanging tough around Muscle Shoals… they are only at 45 degrees at 1:00.

OUR WEEKEND: Tonight will be chilly. Sure looks like we are headed for the mid 30s, and some scattered frost is possible, along with a freeze for the colder valleys and protected areas. But, we warm up very nicely tomorrow with ample sunshine and a high around 70. Sunday, however, will be a bit different as moisture returns. The sky will feature more clouds than Sunday on Sunday, south winds will pick up and become rather gusty, and we could see a few passing rain showers. No wash-out, but keep in mind a little rain is possible at times.

MORE SEVERE WEATHER? The 12Z global models have come in a little slower with the next system, and suggests the event will happen during the daytime hours Monday, generally in the 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. time frame. See the Weather Xtreme video for the analysis, but despite the fact that the primary surface low will be well to the north, it sure looks like all modes of severe weather will be possible… maybe even a few isolated supercell type storms ahead of the main line. We will keep a close eye on the various parameters over the weekend and make adjustments as needed, but Monday will be another day when you need to be able to hear watches and warnings as they are issued.

REST OF NEXT WEEK: We should be in good shape for the rest of the week… dry conditions are likely Tuesday through Friday with highs mostly in the 60s and lows in the upper 30s and low to mid 40s. The GFS shows another setup for strong storms around Saturday, March 5. See the Weather Xtreme video for more ideas on long range weather.
