Wet Weather Just Around The Corner

**No afternoon Weather Xtreme video today due to a late travel schedule**

BENEFICIAL RAIN AHEAD: Not much change in our overall thinking for the weekend. Clouds will thicken tonight, and we turn cooler tomorrow with the wedge setting up (low level easterly flow bringing in cooler air from the east). Communities near the Georgia border will probably hold in the 50s all day, with low to mid 60s elsewhere. The rain will become fairly widespread tomorrow afternoon into tomorrow night.

SATURDAY SOAKER: An all-day, wash-out type rain is setting up for Saturday. I know there are many outdoor events going on around here, but the news is not good if you are planning one. Rain is likely most of the day Saturday… into Saturday night, with rain amounts of at least two inches likely. We note the 12Z NAM is now printing 3.03″ for Birmingham with this event.

Severe weather parameters remain very marginal… but we always have to keep an eye out for any storm system that moves through this time of the year. A line of storms will pass through Saturday night ahead of the cold front, but for now it looks like the storms will generally remain below severe limits.

SUNDAY/MONDAY: The rain should end sometime in the midnight to 3 a.m. time frame (early Sunday morning), followed by gradual clearing and cooler temperatures during the day Sunday. Most places will see a high only in the mid 50s. And, we will be very close to freezing at daybreak Monday. The 12Z GFS is printing 33 for Birmingham… most places will wind up in the 27-36 degree range. A widespread frost is also likely. Then, with sunshine in full supply, we will see a high in the mid 60s Monday afternoon.

REST OF NEXT WEEK: Tuesday will be dry, but another cold front will bring rain and storms back to the state at mid-week… the prime chance of that rain will come Wednesday night, possibly into Thursday morning. Cooler and drier air will follow by Friday.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
