BIG TIME RAIN EVENT: Scroll down for J.B.’s long list of rain totals across the state… most places wound up in the 2-4 inch range, with isolated amounts over 5 inches over West Alabama. Seems like water is everywhere, and just about every major river is now in flood. See the various river flood warnings here.

The good news is that this rain has eliminated the rain deficit for us… just about everybody should have a surplus for the year now.

Severe storms moved through the Gulf Coast region, with tornado touchdowns at Theodore in Mobile County, and Robertsdale and Silverhill in Baldwin County. Other tornadoes were reported across parts of the Florida Panhandle this afternoon, but I have heard of no specific reports of damage there.

REST OF THIS AFTERNOON: A band of showers and thunderstorms is forming on the surface cold front to the west… this band will pass through North and Central Alabama this evening. There is certainly a chance of thunder, and we might even see a strong storm along the front, but the best shear has pulled away from the region, and I don’t expect a major issue with severe weather. All of the showers and storms should be out of the state by 9:00 p.m.

COLD, RAW THURSDAY: Tomorrow will be a day much like Sunday. Clouds around most of the day with temperatures not getting out of the 40s. Parts of the Tennessee Valley of extreme North Alabama could hold in the upper 30s all day, and there is even some risk of light snow flurries tomorrow morning north of U.S. 278 (north of a line from Hamilton to Cullman to Gadsden). It will be like the dead of winter in the middle of March.

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: We will start the day Friday very close to the freezing mark, assuming the sky clears tomorrow night. Lows Friday morning will be in the 27-34 degree range for most places… then we warm nicely Friday with a high in the mid to upper 50s along with a good supply of sunshine.

Saturday and Sunday look great with a sunny sky both days and highs in the 67-71 degree range.

NEXT WEEK: Spring break for many… for now it looks like we will have a chance of showers Monday afternoon through Monday night, and another chance of rain toward the end of the week Thursday or Friday. The middle part of the week looks nice with a decent amount of sunshine Tuesday through Thursday along with highs in the low 70s. See the Weather Xtreme video for a day by day breakdown.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
