Warmth Sticks With Us

As spring break week comes to an end, the warm weather will stick with us through the weekend. Along with the warmth, it appears that we stay essentially dry. While a cold front was located just to the north of the Tennessee River Valley, showers were confined to the area north of the front. And with an upper ridge, the front is not expected to sag much further south keeping shower chances mainly in Tennessee.
The surface high to our north and northeast will set up a wedge scenario or cold air damming. With the surface high over Pennsylvania and New York, we get a surface flow down the eastern side of the mountains and into Georgia and Alabama. This is likely to produce some clouds for East Alabama on Sunday along with a small chance for an isolated shower or two. But this does not look like any kind of major rain event.
The upper ridge gets stronger on Monday ending the influence of the wedge and keeping us dry through Tuesday. Wednesday becomes a day with our best rain potential of the week. The issue will be the strength of the ridge and how much southward influence the trough will have. Again this is not expected to be a big rain event with rainfall amounts spotty and light.
The ridge becomes somewhat dampened with slight troughiness over the eastern seaboard of the US which puts us under a slight northwesterly flow. This should exert a bit of a cool down on us with lows dropping back into the 40s and highs hold in the 60s by Friday and Saturday.
Further into the future, the flow becomes very quick with two substantial troughs coming in quick succession around the 28th and 30th. Each of these will produce a rain event for us, however, the second one is the stronger of the two with some potential for severe weather. The upper ridge returns as we enter April to bring back dry, warm weather.

I hope you have the opportunity to enjoy the warm weather and get outside. The trees are getting close to producing the pollen which will keep a lot of us indoors. Have a wonderful day and Godspeed.
