Interesting surface pattern to deal with today for Central Alabama. We have a ridge in the upper atmosphere while we have a wedge setting up to our east with the surface high centered over New England and the Mid-Atlantic states. The easterly flow does not seem to have many clouds with it, but East Alabama could see more clouds than western sections. While there is some sign of a little instability, I have not mentioned any showers simply due to the lack of moisture and any real forcing. Greatest threat of an isolated shower would be in Georgia.

The wedge breaks down as the surface high moves off to the east by Monday returning us to a sunny day and warm with temperatures continuing to approach the 80-degree mark. Not much change in the pattern on Tuesday with the upper ridge dominating. But the ridge breaks down on Wednesday with a strong short wave moving through the Great Lakes area. The will drag a front into the area bringing chances for showers Wednesday afternoon through Thursday morning.

Rain chances are pretty small, however, due to several factors including the weakness of the system and the lack of good moisture. It appears likely that what moisture we get will be coming with the system, so rainfall will be spotty and probably less than a quarter of an inch in those spots that do see a shower.

The ridge redevelops along the eastern Rockies bringing a slight northwesterly flow to the area allowing a slight cool down for Friday. We should see lows in the 40s and highs in the lower 70s. The net shot at some rain comes Sunday as a strong short wave moves into Texas with a front dragging into the area. The short wave retains its energy, so we see the development of a surface low in the lower Mississippi River Valley on Monday which could bring a severe weather threat to the Southeast US on Monday. But this is verging into voodoo country, so it is definitely a stay tuned situation.

Voodoo remains fairly active with another storm system around the first of April going into a somewhat benign pattern by the 4th.
