One More Dry And Mild Day

An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below, and on iTunes…

At 2:00 p.m… the temperature at Birmingham had reached 73 degrees. That is 10 degrees above our average high of 63, and within 7 degrees of the record high of 80 degrees on this date, recorded on November 19, 1985.

The weather will remain unseasonably mild tomorrow, but big changes are ahead by Thanksgiving.

MID-WEEK RAIN: We are still looking at a good rain event here late Wednesday afternoon, Wednesday night, and into Thanksgiving morning. Rainfall amounts of around one inch are likely, and a few strong storms could be involved. We don’t expect a major severe weather threat, however, with the best dynamics passing north of here.

HOLIDAY TRAVEL: Rain is likely on Wednesday in the broad area from Oklahoma City to Buffalo. That rain could change to snow Wednesday night in places like St. Louis, Chicago, Milwaukee, Detroit, and Cleveland, which could mean airport delays and icy travel in those areas. The snow should linger into Thursday morning in some of those cities, making for a White Thanksgiving.

TURKEY DAY CHILL: Still looks like temperatures go the wrong way on Thursday; dropping through the 50s, perhaps reaching the 40s by mid to late afternoon with a brisk and icy north wind. The rain should be over by midday. The temperature Thursday afternoon will be about 25 degrees colder than what we expect tomorrow afternoon.

BIG SHOPPING DAY: The weather still looks dry but rather chilly on Friday; the low will be near freezing, with a high in the low to mid 50s.

WET WEEKEND: A major storm system will come roaring out of the Northwest Gulf of Mexico over the weekend, and it promises to bring a cold, soaking rain to Alabama Saturday night and Sunday. If this were January, we would be looking at a major snow threat for places like Memphis and Huntsville, but this is November so it will be all rain, which is just what we need. This system has the potential to bring widespread two inch rains to much of Alabama and Georgia.

IRON BOWL: The 12Z run of the GFS is a little slower, so the best possible situation is that the rain holds off until after the big game Saturday night in Auburn. But, I believe rain is likely during the game with temperatures only in the 40s. The two words to remember for now: cold, and wet.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes.
