Alabama 811 | Know What's Below.

A Few 10:15 am Extra Notes

* Main line of thunderstorms now extends from NW of Memphis southwestward across Central Arkansas to near Shreveport and into East Texas.

* Small cluster of new storms forming over Extreme North Mississippi northwest of Tupelo and into Southwest Tennessee. At least one Severe Thunderstorm Warning in SW Tennessee because of those.

* No strong thunderstorms in Alabama at this hour. In fact, only a few light showers over the extreme NW part of the state. That will change in a big way later today.

* At 8 o’clock this morning, the Storm Prediction Center (SPS) expanded the enhanced “Moderate Risk” area more eastward. It now covers much of North and West Central Alabama including such places as the Tennessee Valley, Cullman, Florence, Russellville, Hamilton, Birmingham, Fayette, Jasper and Tuscaloosa. (that is not an all-inclusive list!)

* All of the Birmingham Metro Area is included.

* A Tornado Watch continues until mid afternoon for these areas:
…Much of Arkansas
…Extreme North and NW Mississippi
…Extreme west parts of Tennessee and Kentucky

* Our thinking is still the same. We believe the main threat for the Birmingham Area will be later this afternoon, possibly a late afternoon/evening event.

* However, we must continue to watch for possible loners developing out ahead of the main line. Those can be very dangerous.
