Changing Seasons

Check out the following three pictures I took looking west on the Warrior River from Bluff Creek (about 8 miles south of Gorgas by water). They are of sunsets from May 4, Oct 13, and Nov 30.

Notice how the sun set more in the NW in May (as summer was approaching and the sun was farther north), set nearly due west in October, and set in the SW on Friday (November 30), as winter is only three weeks away and the sun is almost as far south as it gets.

Radar sometimes picks up the sunrise and sunset, as the sun emits some energy in the frequency the radar uses to detect raindrops. On May 4 (top), note how the sunset on radar was NW, and on Nov 30 (bottom) it was SW.

Now, take a look at the Geochron-style maps of daylight and sun position for the three dates pictures above.

The other neat picture was of a jet contrail on Friday just before sunset. For some reason, probably due to sun angle, the contrail appears blue.
