Great weather will continue today and into the first of the upcoming week along with a gradual warm-up. If you step outside early this morning, it is a bit chilly with 30-degree values across the Tennessee Valley portion of Alabama. The rest of the state was in the 40s. I even saw my breathe a little when I went to get the newspaper.

The trough and surface low along with the cold front that brought the stormy weather Friday has moved well east and northeast of us bringing about a northwesterly flow which has brought the morning chill to the area. That flow will become zonal ahead of the next developing trough entering the Northwest US on Monday. Due to the strength of the ridge, this next storm system will stay to our north. But it will drag a front into the region on Wednesday. That front will stick around as it becomes stationary due to the upper flow going zonal again. Without the upper air support and push to move it through the Southeast, the front will provide a focus for isolated to scattered showers each day through Friday. Rainfall will be spotty with the showers, so no widespread rain is expected with some spots getting a half inch or so.

Thursday another trough digs into the western US. This one should have the strength to develop another surface low around the Oklahoma Panhandle on Friday. As this system moves eastward, another front will impact the Southeast US over Easter weekend. The front should be approaching Memphis Saturday morning and moving into Alabama late Saturday evening. By Easter Sunday, the front should be exiting the southeast corner of Alabama by midday. Once again this could bring us another round of severe weather, but we are getting out close to voodoo country, and that far out, timing could be an issue. Certainly the next one to be watching.

Voodoo country remains active. Another storm system will bring a rain event toward the end of April, but a strong ridge for May 1 and 2 promises some warmth as we start the last month of severe weather season in Alabama.
