An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below, and on iTunes…

Sure looks discouraging in the rain department during the next seven days. A familiar story for 2007…

Rain deficiencies for 2007 include 23.00″ at Birmingham, 29.08″ at Anniston, and 29.28″ at Tuscaloosa. As of today, the official rain total for the year at Birmingham is only 27.11″. There is a very good chance that this will be driest year on record; currently the driest year (since 1900) is 1904 with 34.32″.

NEAR TERM: The Alberta Clipper is passing north of Alabama today… some snow is likely today for places like Indianapolis, Columbus (OH), and Washington (DC). We stay dry here with a high around 60 degrees and just a few scattered clouds. A fresh shot of air coming off the snow fields to the north will drop in here tomorrow, and the high will drop back about five degrees (we are projecting a high in the mid 50s tomorrow).

WEEKEND WARMUP: We are forecasting low 60s on Friday, upper 60s on Saturday, and low 70s on Sunday with a partly sunny sky each day. No significant chance of rain despite a gradual increase in low level moisture. To the west, a big time winter storm will bring heavy snow and very cold weather to the southern Rockies.

NEXT WEEK: The intense upper trough over the Southwest U.S. will finally lift out by the middle of next week, but it will weaken rapidly, and drag a rather puny cold front through here by Wednesday or Thursday. That will offer the chance of a shower or two, but beneficial rain isn’t likely at all.

INTO VOODOO LAND: The GFS continues to advertise our next really good rain event in the December 15-16 time frame, followed by a shot of much colder air. There is a vast supply of very cold air over a good snow cover over the northern half of North America; Northway, Alaska dropped to 46 degrees below zero yesterday morning. That is big time cold for so early in the season.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left.

WEATHER PARTY: Get all the latest weather news over on our sister site, WeatherParty.com. Be sure and register while you are there; you can submit stories and vote on them to determine what is published on the front page. This is a great way to find the latest weather-related news stories.

Look for the next Weather Xtreme video here by 3:30 this afternoon. Enjoy the day!
