Alabama Weather Update

Two areas of precipitation across Alabama this afternoon.

A large area of moderate to heavy rain covers the southeastern third of Alabama. It extends from Clay and Randolph Counties south and southwestward through the Montgomery area along and just east of I-65 into the Florida Panhandle. Some pretty good storms are over southern Randolph and northern Chambers Counties between Wedowee and Lafayette. Another good storm is over Lee and southeastern Macon County south and east of Opelika. Good bit of lightning with these storms.

Back to the west, a large area of rain covered the eastern half of Mississippi ahead of a cold front that was approaching I-55. The main area extends into Pickens, Lamar, Marion, and western Franklin Counties.

Ahead of the main area, two bands of heavier showers have formed. One extends from Decatur to just west of Cullman to just east of Jasper.

The second extends just behind the other, from Double Springs in Winston County to near Tuscaloosa and into Greene and Sumter Counties. The temperature at Tuscaloosa had risen to 75F.

The cell just west of Eutaw in Greene County had intensified and looked like it might be on its way to becoming a storm.

The temperature at Memphis is down to 42F behind the front. There is a lot of drizzle and light rain over southeastern Arkansas.

Snow at Vicksburg? That was the case according to the 10 a.m. Mississippi Hourly Weather Roundup this morning. Obviously, the equipment was not working properly.
