Showers are moving across Alabama tonight.

Most if not all of the lightning is gone now in the activity over the northern half of the state.

Showers now cover much of Lamar, Fayette, Walker, western Jefferson, and Tuscaloosa Counties down into Greene, Hale and Sumter Counties and points south and southwest.

Most of the rainfall is light, although there is some moderate rain between Tuscaloosa, Jasper and Birmingham.

The pre-frontal trough has reached Tuscaoosa, where winds have shifted to the west.

The cold front is nearing Tupelo now. It is moving east at about 20 mph. It should reach the Birmingham area around 5 a.m. Temperatures will fall for a few hours after that and the mercury will struggle to reach 50 tomorrow. Showers will end with the arrival of the front.

It will be windy through early afternoon tomorrow with winds averaging 10-25 mph. A Lake Wind Advisory is in effect until noon Sunday.

Look for a light freeze tomorrow night.
