Widespread Wind Damage Event Over Much of Central Alabama

| April 27, 2011 @ 6:42 am | 3 Replies

Widespread wind damage has been caused by a powerful bow echo that has moved across Central Alabama early this morning. The powerful storm have affected a wide area from Fayette and Tuscaloosa Counties, eastward across Walker/Jefferson, northern Shelby…into St. Clair County.

Tornado damage is being reported in Cullman County…in the Hanceville area…this possible tornado is now in Marshall County…a tornado warning is in effect for Jackson, Madison and Marshall Counties.

Numerous trees are down over a wide area. Power is out to a wide area. The communities that have been affected are too numerous to mention.

Many schools are delaying their starts by two hours. Some, like Fayette County…are closed.

Do not drive…be in a safe place as the line of storms approaches…not in a mobile home or automobile…we have reports of tractor trailers overturned and trees uprooted near MM 93 on I-59/20.

The line is approaching Gadsden, Anniston, Talladega and Sylacauga. It will be in Ashland, Wedowee, Heflin, Piedmont and Centre in the next 30-45 minutes.

And this is not the main event…we will still see the development of more storms later today…they will be severe as well. Hopefully, this morning’s activity will help mitigate the afternoon and evening severe weather somewhat, but we won’t know that for awhile…
