Two main areas of precipitation across Alabama this morning.

A conveyor belt of rain and embedded thunderstorms extends up the I-59 corridor from Bibb and Tuscaloosa Counties through the Birmingham Metro area into Marshall, DeKalb and Etowah Counties.

Heavy rain is over Southwest Jefferson County. It will be affecting the Birmingham Metro area. No lightning showing up on the detection equipment, but the storms are elevated, so some lightning might not be showing up. Good bit of lightning over DeKalb County west and southwest of Fort Payne, where a significant weather alert is in effect until 11 a.m.

The main line of showers and thunderstorms is now over the Northwest Corner of the state. It extends across Lauderdale, Colbert, Lawrence, Franklin, Northwest Marion anf northern Lamar Counties.

Severe weather is possible over Central Alabama today as the warm front retreats northward and the cold front approaches from the west.

Areas south of the warm front are getting balmy. Linda Thomas in Verbena reports that she is up to nearly 64F, and the fog has lifted with a nice south breeze. Welcome to the warm sector!

In South Alabama…Baldwin and Escambia Counties are under a tornado warning.
