After the storms of historic proportion on Wednesday, we are seeing some beautiful weather continue into the weekend as temperatures climb nicely toward a high today of about 84 with lot of sunshine.

We may see a few clouds tomorrow and Monday, but I think we stay dry both days. Monday as the next system approaches, there is a risk of isolated showers especially to the northwest of the Birmingham area. Again, though, with the ridge holding pretty strong I don’t expect to see many showers in Central Alabama.

The front drags through on Tuesday which should be our best shot at getting some rain. At this time, there does not appear to be any kind of serious severe weather threat. Rainfall amounts in this area will likely be in the half to three-quarter inch range. Rainfall to our northwest will be significant again with amounts in Arkansas projected to be in the 5 to 6 inch range – a place that probably does not need any more rain.

We clear out on Wednesday with a gorgeous day expected with sunshine and lower humidity thanks in part to a northwesterly flow. I expect at mid week to see highs only in the 70s – the kind of weather I sure would like to see in July or August!

We warm up some heading into the end of the week with some threat for showers again on Friday with another fast moving system that will give us a glancing blow as the main trough stays to our north. The ridge and surface high fill back in providing another nice weekend for the first weekend of May.

Voodoo country shows a ridge-trough pattern with the trough over the East Coast. This could keep us in a slight northwesterly flow pattern that would be dry and coolish – nothing record breaking – but cool and dry.

Working this weekend with two outdoor festivals, one in Birmingham and one in Memphis. Looks like both will have good weather today, but storms will affect the Beale Street Festival in Memphis on Sunday. My thoughts and prayers still go out to all of those still grappling with the events of Wednesday – those long track tornadoes affected so many people. But I do hope you will be able to enjoy the good weather today. Godspeed.
