Welcome to 2007! The ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below, and on iTunes:

Thanks to J.B. Elliott, Bill Murray, and Brian Peters for covering Internet duties for me last week… really nice to have a little time off.

SHORT TERM: Dry and cool weather is the story through Wednesday; a light freeze is likely tomorrow morning with temperatures dropping into the 25 to 32 degree range. Lots of sunshine today, tomorrow, and Wednesday. Our “normal” high/low for the first of January is 55/33, and we will be a little below that during the next 24 hours.

NEXT RAIN: The four corners storm machine is cranking them out every three days or so, and the next one will bring rain and a few thunderstorms to Alabama by Thursday afternoon, Thursday night, and Friday. SPC still has much of Central and South Alabama under a severe weather risk on Thursday, but I think the severe weather threat will be limited to the Gulf coast, much like the system yesterday. The air will be a little too stable up this way, and wind fields don’t look too strong. Rainfall amounts of over one inch are likely, however.

LONG RANGE: At this point the weather looks dry on Saturday, but another band of showers and storms should move in here Sunday, followed by a shot of colder air early next week. Watch the video and you will see the NAO and the AO is forecast to remain positive for the next 16 days, so any cold air intrusion shouldn’t be too severe or long lasting. The mean trough position will remain over the western part of the nation.

LOTS OF WEATHER NEWS: Catch up on the latest weather news on our sister site, weatherparty.com. Be sure and register and you can submit links and vote on them.

Still working on the holiday schedule… just one video today, but tomorrow we get back to normal with two Weather Xtreme videos per day. Also, tonight we only have one newscast on ABC 33/40… that comes at 10:00 tonight. Our 5:00 and 6:00 news will be pre-empted by football…. looks like we have the Rose Bowl on our channel… that should be a great game. Enjoy the day!
