Alabama at the Noon Hour

A narrow line of moderate to heavy showers has advanced into East Alabama. The line extends from Cherokee County down through the Anniston area, then to near Rockford and Montgomery and finally into SW Alabama.

Slow mover.

Very little lightning in that line, in fact difficult to find lightning anywhere in the state. That is a good thing because of so many people outdoors in rescue and cleanup efforts.

By far, the main rain event continues to unfold over the NW part of the state. Extensive rain, moderate to locally heavy, is more widespread from the Florence/Decatur area southwestward through these counties:

Franklin
Lawrence
Marion
Winston
Lamar
Fayette
Pickens

The cold front (er the cool front) is now half way down the state from about Fort Payne and Anniston into SW Alabama.

Slow mover…almost poking along.

Current temperatures across the state range from 84 in Dothan and 81 in Montgomery to a very chilly 46 in Haleyville where there is heavy rain. (That is a 38-degree contrast!)

This rain is not helping debris removal and recovery efforts.

But look ahead, we are talking all sunshine Wednesday, Thursday and Friday with highs only in the 70s along with low humidity. Don’t be surprised to hear of some low temperatures in the 36-40 range in the cooler North Alabama valleys tomorrow morning!
