Heads Up Pickens, Sumter, Greene

| May 13, 2011 @ 9:19 pm | 1 Reply

Strong storms over eastern Mississippi will move into Pickens County shortly after 9:30 p.m.

They will be into northern Sumter shortly after 10 p.m.

Greene County will see them shortly thereafter.

They could even get into southern Tuscaloosa County, passing near or just south of the city of Tuscaloosa.

The storms have lots of lightning and could produce damaging winds and even some large hail.

Severe thunderstorm warnings are in effect for the Mississippi counties just to the west of these Alabama locations and will likely be issued into Alabama.

These more southern storms will probably continue strong for the next few hours as they exploit more unstable air over Central Alabama. North of I-59, the air is more stable and the storms should weaken, although we can’t rule out a few more strong ones there as well.
