THIS AFTERNOON: Another cool May day…Gadsden reports a cool 63 degrees at 3:00 with a mostly cloudy sky, but over West Alabama the sun is shining brightly, and Tuscaloosa has warmed to 70.

WARM-UP: A warming trend headlines our forecast for the rest of the week. We rise into the low 70s tomorrow, mid 80s Thursday, and upper 80s Friday as the omega block breaks down, and an upper ridge begins to build across the Gulf Coast states. Dry air means sunny days, fair nights, and no rain.

WARM WEEKEND: We are looking for highs in the 86-90 degree range over the weekend, quite the contrast to last weekend when folks were in sweaters and jackets. Humidity levels will rise, but the upper ridge should keep most of the state dry. Any afternoon showers this weekend should be very isolated, and mainly over the Tennessee Valley.

NEXT WEEK: Looks like we stay mostly dry and very warm Monday and Tuesday, but the GFS continues to advertise our next organized rain/storm event at some point in the May 25-27 time frame, over the latter half of the week. We will fine tune the details as we get closer.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.

I had a very moving visit to see the kids at Pleasant Grove Elementary this afternoon… those kids are survivors of an EF-4 and all have a long story to tell. Many are still sporting cuts, bruises, broken bones, and lots of soreness. The stories they had to tell were riveting. Be sure and watch them on the Pepsi KIDCAM today at 5:00 on ABC 33/40 News… the next Weather Xtreme video will be posted by 7:00 a.m. tomorrow!
