Storms Firing Over East Central Alabama

| June 12, 2011 @ 1:07 pm | Reply

Storms are starting to fire from West Central Georgia near Carrollton to north of Wedowee to near Ashland and Lineville in Clay County.

They are already quite strong with tops to over 40,000 feet near Ashland.

The storms are moving to the southeast and growing in intensity.

They will produce intense lightning, gusty winds and some hail as well as brief heavy rain.

It remains to be seen if additional development will happen over North Central Alabama this afternoon. We will pay close attention to the radar.

Ten of the eleven major reporting stations in the state had reached 90F by noon. Only Anniston was sub-90F, but they won’t be far behind. Skies are mostly sunny except just ahead of the line of storms that is forming over East Central Alabama. In fact, differential heating behind that cloudiness area may be helping the storms to form.
