Parts of the Birmingham area have been impacted by significant straight line winds that have put 41,000 Alabama Power customers in the dark.

Trees are reported down in parts of town, especially in Homewood and Trussvllle.

Traffic is at a standstill on Lakeshore Drive between Samford University and US-280.

It looks to be a problem on parts of US-31, 280 as well. Even Montevallo Road and Montclair Road as well as the Crestline Village areas seem to be impacted. US-78 in Irondale is very slow as well out to John Rogers Drive.

Highway 11 is also creeping between the Pinnacle and downtown Trussville.

It will be a slow commute across parts of the area this afternoon.
