Storms To Increase Tomorrow
**No afternoon Weather Xtreme video today; I am speaking at a small business forum on tornado recovery sponsored by the Birmingham Business Alliance this afternoon**
RIGHT NOW: Storms are widely scattered across our state this afternoon. No widespread MCS like yesterday, but some of the storms could be strong with lots of lightning and gusty winds. They will continue to form in random locations for the next few hours, but will fade once the sun goes down later this evening.
FRONT ARRIVES TOMORROW: A surface boundary (notice we don’t call them cold fronts this time of the year!) will slip into North Alabama tomorrow, and should bring scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms by the midday and afternoon hours. SPC has much of North Alabama in a standard slight risk of severe weather as the storms could produce hail, damaging winds, and very frequent lightning. Temperatures should reach the low to mid 90s before the storms arrive.
WEDNESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY: Noticeably drier air moves into the northern counties of Alabama on Wednesday, and it sure looks like storms will be hard to find on these three days. Look for sunny days, fair nights, and lower humidity levels. No cooler air, however, as afternoon highs remain in the mid 90s. The lower humidity should make the heat a little more tolerable.
HOLIDAY WEEKEND: Moisture levels will only slowly increase Saturday and Sunday, so at this point it looks like afternoon storms will be very widely spaced. A general increase in the number of showers and storms is likely by Monday July 4 as the upper ridge weakens a bit.
AT THE BEACH: The weather looks rather uneventful through the holiday weekend. About 7 to 9 hours of sunshine each day with only widely scattered storms. The high along the immediate coast will be around 90, and sea water temperatures are running in the mid to upper 80s along The coast from Panama City west to Gulf Shores.
TROPICS: A disturbance near the Yucatan Peninsula has a chance to become better organized in coming days. It will move slowly to the west/northwest in the general direction of the Mexican Gulf Coast. The rest of the Atlantic basin is quiet.
WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. Dr. Greg Forbes from the Weather Channel will be our guest tonight; we will record at 8:30 p.m. CDT as usual, and the show will be posted to iTunes and the web by midnight.
